Philippines is officially known as the Republic of the Philippines. It is an archipelago comprised of over 7,000 islands under the three main geographical regions of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It’s capital is Manila has approximately 1.6 million inhabitants and one of 144 cities in Philippines.
My wife and I live in Makati City, I also work here. Makati hosts about a quarter of the population of Manila and is one of 16 cities in Metro Manila. Makati is the central business district of the Philippines. Here in Makati, you’ll find most of the large multinational and local corporations as well as major local, foreign and global banks, department stores and a variety of pubs, clubs and restaurants.
You can find a lot of what you’re accustomed to if you’re from Europe or North America.
Living in Philippines
This is an introductory piece that will work as a commencement piece in order to set up a journal of living in Philippines. My wife and I travel a lot, admittedly outside of Philippines but we intend to travel more inside the country and we’ll photograph and document the travels and experiences.
There are some pretty funky idiosyncrasies that you’ll eventually get used to, as well as some you won’t. We’ll do our best to document some of the local language and cultural highlights of the country as well as lots of photograph. There is a lot to see and do here and if you like beaches, adventure, unpredictability, friendliness and unforgettable memories then this country will provide this and more for you.
If you’re an expat thinking of moving here and living in Philippines for work you can get in touch or simply follow the articles we post. Hopefully our experience here is useful to you.
